The LAB, a part of Costa Mesa, was founded in 1993 to break the monotony of shopping. The acronym LAB stands to represent “Little American Business”, and this is exactly who we are. We strive to support them. In 1993, The LAB Team recycled the LAB from a Costa Mesa night-vision goggle manufacturer. Linda Sadeghi is currently the current steward.
The LAB is a casual, indoor-outdoor space that offers shops and restaurants for young people. The LAB is located in a renovated night vision goggle factory. It houses a variety of non-conformist shops and artisanal restaurants that are not usually found in regular shopping malls.
We saw a need in Orange County for an indoor-outdoor alternative hang-out that would be a hub of art, music and fashion lovers.
The LAB is true to its nature and continues to promote creativity with various art installations and local artists via musical events and rotating murals, graphic designs, walk-through galleries, visual merchandising and graphic design.
The LAB includes a mosaic project called “Community Wall”, a wishing tree messaging installation, and community seating known as “The Living Room”. The location hosts a variety of events throughout the year including the Full Moon Night Market (BLOOM), a SoBECA Festival and LAB Earth Day Night Market.
The LAB houses a variety of shops and restaurants that are not found in the main retail centres. They continue to push the boundaries of creativity through musical events, revolving walls, graphic arts, walkthrough galleries and visual merchandising displays. It also features a mosaic “community Wall”, a message installation on a wishing-tree, group seating, and more!
A shopping session at The LAB will help you burn off the beer buzz. The LAB stands to “Little American Business”, and not everyone is aware of this. Buffalo Exchange offers unique threads, House of Intuition crystals and Creme Tangerine Records vinyl. The LAB is a community of fashion lovers, music fans and art lovers with an unusual energy.
